{"id":125,"date":"2016-04-15T20:16:37","date_gmt":"2016-04-15T20:16:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/voicesfromthestreet.com\/?page_id=125"},"modified":"2021-05-30T23:57:08","modified_gmt":"2021-05-31T03:57:08","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/voicesfromthestreet.com\/?page_id=125","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Voices from the streets (VOICES)<\/h2>\n<p>Voices from the Street was originally developed through a partnership between the Ontario Council of Alternative Businesses, (OCAB) now Working for Change (Becky McFarlane), the Gerstein Centre (Nicki Casseres), and Pat Capponi.<\/p>\n<p>It was a leadership training program developed in 2005, in order to provide economically, politically and socially marginalized individuals from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to bring their voices and perspectives to decision-making bodies that shape public policy. Pat Capponi, a well-known author, activist and <span class=\"_Tgc\">psychiatric survivor<\/span> is the lead facilitator in a consultant capacity. She shares what makes a good story and the importance of building allies.<\/p>\n<p>Graduates from the program have become part <a href=\"http:\/\/voicesfromthestreet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/button-design-A1-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-794\" src=\"http:\/\/voicesfromthestreet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/button-design-A1-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"312\" height=\"170\"><\/a>of a Speakers Bureau that creates opportunities for members to advocate for societal change and reduce stigma and discrimination.
